Austin Texas MLS says home sales increasing, prices stable

The Austin Board of Realtors released Austin Texas area single family home sales for February today and the news from the MLS was good.  From January to February 2010, sales of Austin Texas homes increased by 24%.  Compared to February of 2009, sales were up 4%.

"These results demonstrate that Austin's recovery is continuing steadily," said John Horton, Chairman of the Austin Board of REALTORS®. "Our area has been identified as one of the first to emerge from the recession and the real estate trends of recent months clearly support this assertion."

Austin Texas homes were spending about 10 days less on the market compared to last year and prices were steady vs. a year ago according to the Austin MLS.  The median price of an Austin Texas area home sold in February 2010 was $189,500.  The number of active listings on the market remained virtually unchanged from a year ago.  Pending Austin home sales were up a big 24% vs. a year ago, a very positive trend that indicates home sales should remain strong again next month.

The trees and flowers are budding and blooming, the weather is a beautiful 75 degrees and MLS home inventory is steady and plentiful in the crown jewel of Texas.  With Austin, Texas federal homebuyer tax credits for first time buyers and existing homeowners expiring at the end of April, now is a great time to buy in the capital city of Texas.
